Bridge Draftsman – Johannesburg

Job Description

Our client, an Engineering Company is looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Bridge Draftsman.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Drafting or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in bridge drafting or structural drafting
• Proficiency in AutoCAD (2D and 3D), Civil 3D, and optionally in Revit or MicroStation.
• Familiarity with bridge elements (Piers, Abutments, Girders, Bearings, Decks).

Key Areas;

• Prepare detailed structural drawings and layouts for bridges, flyovers, culverts, and related infrastructure.
• Develop general arrangement drawings (GAD), reinforcement drawings (rebar detailing), and section views as per design requirements.
• Collaborate closely with structural engineers and project managers to ensure accurate interpretation of design intent.
• Ensure all drawings comply with applicable codes, standards, and client specifications (e.g., AASHTO, Eurocodes, BS, or local standards).
• Update drawings based on design changes or feedback from engineers and clients.
• Maintain a consistent drawing and document naming system and filing method.
• Support the team in quantity take-offs and preparation of Bill of Quantities (BOQ) if required.
• Coordinate with other disciplines (e.g., roads, utilities) to ensure clash-free designs.
• Good understanding of bridge construction methods and structural detailing.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in drawing preparation.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
• Effective communication skills and a team-oriented mindset.
• Preferred:
• Experience with international projects or multi-disciplinary coordination.
• Knowledge of BIM workflows and tools (e.g., Revit, Navisworks).
• Assist in preparing as-built drawings upon project completion.
